Height and proximity to the sea are usually
terms reserved for East Coast lighthouses and
West Coast geographical features. Because of
the gently sloping beaches of the East, lighthouses
are usually the tallest points from which to
look out to sea.
Mount Desert Island steals a bit of their
thunder and when it comes to Mount Desert's
Otter Cliffs and Cadillac Mountain, the saying
might as well be, “You can't get any higher than
here.” And it's true.
